Shave Ice History
The History of Hawaiian Shave Ice dates back to the sugar plantation days of old Hawaii. Thousands of Japanese immigrants flocked to Hawaii to work on the plantations and with them they brought a frozen treat that is now known as shave ice. Many of the original shave ice stands exist on Hawaii's North Shore and no vacation to Hawaii is complete without it.
Matsumoto Shave Ice in Haleiwa, Hawaii is one of the original shave ice establishments and has been going for over 60 years.
